Shopping LOCAL in Peoria: Downtown Galleries, North Peoria Gifts and a Saturday Honey Stand
Where Peoria shops independent this season, from a gallery and a carniceria in the downtown arts district to a makers' boutique on Lake Pleasant Parkway, a honey farm stand and the return of 2nd Saturdays.

Peoria doesn't have one long main street of independent shops. Its locally owned retail comes in pockets: a few historic blocks downtown where the city began, a cluster of storefronts along Lake Pleasant Parkway in the north, and a honey stand on 83rd Avenue that opens one morning a week. Knowing where those pockets are is most of the work. The rest is leaving time to browse.
This season also brings something new downtown. A courtyard of small shops and kitchens is going up at 83rd Avenue and Jefferson Street, and the city's monthly arts night is back on its October-to-April schedule.
Downtown Peoria: the arts district
Downtown Peoria, which many longtime residents still call Old Town, centers on 83rd Avenue between Washington and Jefferson streets. Several of its early buildings still stand, and the city has put money into streetscapes, public art and gathering spaces to bring people back to walk the blocks.
Start at The Monastery AZ, a gallery at 8301 W. Washington Street that opened in March 2025. Alongside its exhibitions it sells products in its shop and runs workshops, including a quarterly Tea in the Gallery gathering where guests taste blends, look at the current show and leave with a jar of loose tea they mixed themselves. Behind the building, the Peoria Mural Garden is a free outdoor gallery where artists add new murals through the season.
A few doors away, Carniceria Sonora at 8287 W. Washington Street is a meat market and grocery with a bakery counter. It makes corn and flour tortillas and fresh masa daily, along with salsas, guacamole and traditional pastries, which makes it a practical stop if you're shopping for a family dinner or a party tray. The business has four Arizona stores; this is its Peoria one.
On 83rd Avenue, Bikers Edge Cycle & Fitness carries everything from children's bikes to mountain and racing bikes, plus parts, apparel and hydration gear. Its technicians handle flats, tune-ups and washes, and the shop offers pickup and delivery for service when needed. If someone on your list rides the New River Trail, this is the place to ask what they might actually use.
For a break, Driftwood Coffee at 8295 W. Jefferson Street serves specialty coffee, espresso and tea, with pastries and coffee by the growler to take home. Caldwell County BBQ, the Texas-style barbecue restaurant the city counts among the results of its downtown investment, opened at 8315 W. Washington Street in spring 2026.
New this season: Jefferson House
At 83rd Avenue and Jefferson Street, Jefferson House is an open-air courtyard under a steel canopy, built with the City of Peoria as part of its downtown redevelopment. Its developers say they are targeting a November 2026 opening and leasing only to independent operators: three chef-run kitchens, a bar, a stage and six small retail and eatery spots meant for makers, vintage dealers and small-batch producers. A small air-conditioned room is set aside for one-day and weekend pop-ups.
One early name is The Book Haul, a mobile bookshop that has sold new and used books at local markets since February 2025. It plans a store at Jefferson House, though it hasn't announced an opening date. Check the courtyard's own updates before making a special trip.
North Peoria: Lake Pleasant Parkway
In the north, 85 Local at 8271 W. Lake Pleasant Parkway brings more than 25 local markets, artisans and small businesses under one roof. Shelves run from home décor and gourmet food to baby and kids' goods, clothing and accessories, and the shop puts together custom gift baskets. It also hosts classes and events, including mahjong, which suits anyone who would rather learn something than buy something.
Next door at 8275 W. Lake Pleasant Parkway, Fabio On Fire's Pizzeria Italiana is Chef Fabio's original restaurant, serving wood-fired pizza, pasta, seafood and house-made gelato from family recipes with roots in Puglia. It turns a gift errand into an evening out.
Markets and a Saturday farm stand
Honey Hive Farms opens its farm stand at 14611 N. 83rd Avenue on Saturday mornings. Tim and Connie Moore have kept bees in Peoria since 2009, and every jar is harvested from their hives and bottled in Peoria without blending or heating. Wildflower is the everyday honey; cactus honey comes only once a year. They also teach small hands-on beekeeping classes, a memorable gift for a curious adult.
Peoria's 2nd Saturdays fills 83rd Avenue between Washington and Jefferson with artisan vendors, live music, food and art on the second Saturday of each month from October through April. The city lists the remaining 2026-27 dates as November 14, December 12, January 9, February 13, March 13 and April 10. December 12 doubles as the Peoria Holiday Festival, where the city is lining up food and craft vendors and ways to visit local businesses. Admission to both is free.
Why it matters here
Much of what makes these places worth the drive depends on local buyers. The vendors who fill 85 Local's shelves, the artists painting in the Mural Garden with help from a city arts grant, and the small operators Jefferson House is courting all need people to show up. Buying a jar of honey, a framed print or a book here keeps that work in Peoria.
Pick one pocket of the city, give it an afternoon, and note the names you'd like to come back to. A second Saturday downtown is a good place to begin.
